The Chomb Story
Three Sichuan Fine Arts Academy alumni. One wooden comb brand. 20+ years of dedication.
Three art school friends ?one commitment to authentic craftsmanship
In 2004, three friends who had studied together at Sichuan Fine Arts Academy ?all from Chongqing ?sat down after graduation and had a conversation that changed everything.
One of them had a father who made traditional wooden combs ?the lacquered kind that looked shiny but felt rough. He'd grown up watching his father work and always thought, "This is what combs are supposed to be like."
Until he stayed at an old craftsman's home and tried the craftsman's unlacquered comb ?simple in color, warm and smooth in the hand, gentle on the scalp. It left his hair neat and his scalp refreshed.
He asked: "Why don't you lacquer this comb?"
The craftsman answered: "Lacquer is for others to see. The comb is for your own scalp."
That sentence became the starting point of Chomb.
The three friends decided: make combs without lacquer. Polish them to perfection ?not 600 grit, not 1,000 grit, but 3,000+ grit. So that every tooth feels as smooth as a baby's skin.
They chose the name "Choumumu" ?"Chou" means unadorned, without pretense; "Mu" is wood, the material. No disguise, just the honest beauty of natural timber.

39 Handcrafted Steps
Timber selection ?Drying ?Layout ?Tooth-cutting ?Progressive polishing (80-3000 grit) ?Quality check ?Packaging
From Ziguangtan timber to finished comb ?every step is handcrafted with care
Timber Selection
Natural wood strictly selected. Moisture content, grain pattern, and density tested. Over 60% of timber is rejected.
Natural Air Drying
Air-dried for 3-6 months for even moisture release, preventing future cracking and warping.
Precision Cutting
Cut along grain direction for maximum strength. Misaligned grain means a rejected piece.
Tooth Cutting
Slots cut precisely by design. Tooth width and depth ?the difference between a good comb and a great one.
Progressive Sanding
80 ?120 ?180 ?240 grit. Each stage removes the previous scratches, each step smoother than the last.
Final Polish: 3000 Grit
The pinnacle ?physical polishing at 3,000+ grit. Teeth feel like a baby's skin. No lacquer. No wax. Just natural wood.
Multi-Point QC
Finger-touch inspection, tooth-tip roundness check, tooth spacing calibration, arc symmetry check, grain beauty check, trial use test.
Careful Packaging
Each comb wrapped in cotton cloth, then placed in gift box. No scratches. No compromises.
Final QC & Dispatch
Pre-shipment full inspection. Archives logged. Then ?shipped to you, ready for years of gentle use.
Our Belief
"Lacquered combs look shinier but feel rougher. Long-term use may harm your scalp and hair."
"Polished to 3,000+ grit, the comb teeth feel like a baby's skin. This is not an exaggeration. It's the truth."
"We don't want to put makeup on our combs. We want them to be felt ?honestly, completely ?by your hands."
